Region 18 Education Service Center is partnering with the Maxwell Leadership Foundation to foster extending the opportunity to pilot the iLead Values Based Student Leadership Initiative as part of an organized large-scale effort to the Region 18 ESC Community during the 23/24 school year.
The iLead lessons are made up of values-based Transformation Tables designed by Dr. John C. Maxwell to develop students’ values and leadership skills. The format allows students to get experience leading as they take turns facilitating.
Each lesson contains a short teaching on a value or leadership characteristic, asks students to evaluate how well they practice the characteristic, and encourages them to commit to one action step for the week that will allow them to improve their rating in that area.
The opportunity to pilot the iLead Student Initiative is being provided to enhance our region's capacity to support students’ knowledge and demonstration of leadership in their values and actions. Values-based leadership development emphasizes personal transformation as a pathway toward wellbeing and thriving and recognizes that personal transformation involves taking action reflective of good values. Wellbeing enhances intrinsic motivation, decreases disciplinary problems, increases academic achievement, improves school satisfaction and leads to flourishing of individuals, communities, and nations (Buecker et al., 2018)
